Iredell Mother Charged In Death Of 5-Month-Old Baby: Sheriff

An autopsy performed Tuesday indicated the baby's cause of death was environmental hyperthermia, ICSO said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — An Iredell County mother was arrested and charged in the death of a five-month-old baby who died Sunday after being left in a car seat inside a car for several hours, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said Thursday afternoon.

Madison Cassidy Moore, 26, was arrested April 29 and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter.

ICSO said it received an emergency call Sunday reporting a baby in respiratory distress at a locatoin on Old Mountain Road in Statesville, north of Troutman.

"When the responding deputies arrived on scene, Troutman Fire, and Iredell County EMS were already at the location," ICSO said in a statement. "The child was pronounced deceased by emergency personnel."

Following the child's death, investigators secured the scene and began an investigation.

An autopsy performed Tuesday indicated the cause of death was environmental hyperthermia, ICSO said.

"This is consistent with the suspect making statements about leaving her child in a car seat, inside the car, for several hours on Sunday," ICSO said.

Moore was taken into custody Thursday, and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Her secured bond was set at $75,000, ICSO said.
