Microbursts, Severe Thunderstorms Possible Friday In Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — The weekend will kick off with a day of severe weather Friday, with strong to severe thunderstorms, microbursts and possible wind gusts of more than 30 mph along the Interstate 77 corridor, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

“While damaging winds possibly due to microbursts are the main threat, stronger thunderstorms may also be capable of producing small hail and brief heavy downpours,” NWS said in a hazardous weather bulletin Thursday. “Breezy conditions are expected outside of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening with gusts between 25 and 35 mph likely.”

By Saturday, however, conditions are expected to clear up with sunny skies and a high of 74. By Sunday, summer will feel in full wing with plenty of sunshine and a high of 80.

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Friday (April 26)
Showers likely before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and 5pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. South southwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
