Severe Weather Possible Today In Iredell County, NWS Warns

Storms moving into Iredell County and the region could produce damaging winds and large hail, the National Weather Service said.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Storms moving into western North Carolina Thursday could produce damaging winds, large hail and even a possible isolated tornado throughout the region, including Iredell County, national forecasters warned Thursday morning.

The threat of the most severe storms, however, will likely be in the mountains, North Carolina Emergency Management said.

"Scattered thunderstorms will develop from the west this afternoon into tonight ahead of a slowly approaching cold front," the National Weather Service said Thursday morning in a hazardous weather bulletin. "The main threat with any thunderstorms will be cloud-to-ground lightning strikes."

Storms will likely be strongest over western sections of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia, with a few severe thunderstorms possible, NWS said.

"The potential for damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado will be highest across extreme northeast Georgia, the far western Upstate of South Carolina, and the extreme southern North Carolina mountains late this afternoon." NWS added.
