Sub-Freezing Temperatures Expected In Mooresville: Forecast
Outdoor fires could easily grow out of control due to dry conditions and gusty winds, forecasters warned Wednesday.
MOORESVILLE, NC — A cold front moving into the region will bring sub-freezing temperatures to Mooresville Wednesday night, the National Weather Service said.
A freeze warning for Iredell County will go into effect at midnight until 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
"Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," NWS said.

Here are precautionary steps to take, according to NWS:
- Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
- To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
- Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
Freezing temperatures aren't the only concern in the region. The front moving in will bring with it gusty winds up to 35 mph and dry air, according to NWS.

"Low relative humidity in combination with these winds will make any fires difficult to control," it said.
• The passing cold front will also bring gusty winds to the area. The strongest wind gusts (45 mph) are forecast for higher elevations in the NW, but wind gusts 25-30 mph are possible for much of NC throughout the day Wednesday.
