Heavy Snow Possible: Winter Storm Warning Issued For Iredell
Here's when the National Weather Service says heavy snow could fall along the Interstate 40 corridor.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A winter storm warning was issued for Iredell County Thursday evening, as a storm system moving into the region could dump up to four inches of snow or more along the Interstate 40 corridor by Friday evening, the National Weather Service said.
A winter storm warning means there is potential for significant winter weather conditions. The alert will begin at 7 p.m. and remain into effect through Friday evening, NWS said.
Precipitation from the storm system will begin late Thursday and continue throughout the day Friday before ending at midnight Friday evening, according to the forecast.

"Sufficient cold air will be in place for mainly snow to fall across the mountains, with the exception of the lowest valleys of extreme southwest North Carolina," NWS said. "While precipitation is expected to initially fall as rain across the foothills and northwest Piedmont, cooling temperatures will support a transition to snow Friday morning, roughly along and north of I-40.
"Heavy snow accumulations will be possible in these areas before the precipitation tapers off, or changes back to rain Friday afternoon," NWS said.

The winter weather could make travel difficult, with hazardous conditions impacting the morning or evening commute, NWS said. Friday night, temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s to around 30, which will cause slippery road conditions that could linger into the weekend.
