75 Year-Old Man Charged With Double Murder In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — A 75-year-old man has been charged with the murder after a weekend shooting in south Charlotte that left two victims dead, police said.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon in the 2700 block of Lytham Drive around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 9.

“Officers located three individuals with apparent gunshot wounds,” CMPD said. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second was later pronounced dead by medical staff at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center, CMPD said.

The victims were identified as Janet Elizabeth Scronce, 40, and Furahn Karren Woods Morrow, 39.

During the investigation, Caldwell Cole, 75, who was also listed as receiving non life-threatening injuries in the incident, was identified as the primary suspect.

Cole was taken into custody when he was released from an area hospital Nov. 10, and transported to CMPD headquarters for questioning. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
