The church’s gift to Time Out Youth was announced March 30, according to The Charlotte Observer. The church has supported the organization for two decades, starting when it provided meeting space for it as it was launched two decades ago, the newspaper said.
The homeless shelter will house a dozen youths.
LGBT teens often face challenges that contribute to homelessness, such as discrimination, social stigma and rejection by their families, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Four in 10 homeless youth identify as LGBT, as well as 30 percent of clients using housing programs, the organization said.
