Best Cinco de Mayo Bars In Charlotte

If you're looking for festive place to celebrate, here are the top spots in Charlotte, according to Yelp.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- It’s May 5, or Cinco de Mayo, which means it’s time to party like it’s 1862. The holiday, primarily celebrated in the U.S. in homage to Hispanic heritage, is not such a big deal today in Mexico, even though it’s based on a Mexican battle victory during the Franco-Mexican War.

It was on the fifth day of May in 1862 that the Mexican Army was able to force French troops into retreat, even though they were outpowered and outmanned. Given that the French would go on to win the war, the battle would later be regarded as a symbolic victory, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

Cinco de Mayo didn’t really gain traction as a holiday in the U.S. until it was used as a marketing campaign by the country’s beer companies in the 1970s and 1980s, the newspaper said. Americans really like to tie one on every Cinco de Mayo, spending nearly $3 billion on margaritas annually, according to Forbes.
