Charlotte Officer Charged For Shoplifting 7 Times From Same Store
A Charlotte police officer was arrested and charged in 7 shoplifting cases from the same south Charlotte Harris Teeter, CMPD said Thursday.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte Police arrested one of their own Thursday, charging him with seven counts of larceny for shoplifting at a south Charlotte Harris Teeter during the last three months.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer Samuel Yaravitz was identified as the suspect in the seven shoplifting cases that spanned from Feb. 13 and May 9, CMPD said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
Yaravitz, who joined CMPD in June 1999, is a patrol officer assigned to the Providence Division, CMPD said.

All seven cases occurred at the same Harris Teeter grocery store located at 6701 Morrison Boulevard.
“We are charged with upholding and enforcing the law and will continue to hold ourselves accountable when we violate it,” CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said in a statement. “I am disappointed that a member of our department has fallen short of our organization’s high standards.”

Yaravitz has been suspended without pay while CMPD conducts an investigation, The Charlotte Observer reported.
