Driver Killed After Crashing Car Into Back Of Flatbed Truck

The driver crashed into the rear of a flatbed truck that was parked in the right hand lane with its flashers on, police said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police launched an investigation Wednesday after a fatal car crash that left a 62-year-old driver dead after she crashed into the back end of an unoccupied flatbed tractor trailer.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Boulevard, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The truck had been parked in the right travel lane on West Boulevard for about 90 minutes, and had its flashers on, according to a police statement.

Sandra Ellen Jackson, 62, crashed the 2006 Hyundai Sonata into the the rear of the flatbed truck, suffering life threatening injuries. She was transported to Atrium Health, but was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. at the hospital.

While investigators do not believe speed or impairment contributed to the crash, Jackson was not wearing a seatbelt. She was the only occupant in the car.

“There are no known witnesses to the crash, but three employees with the company that owns the Freightliner did hear the crash, and they were all interviewed on scene,” CMPD said.
