CHARLOTTE, NC — A Providence Day student has died one week after he was injured in a bus crash in Argentina that also killed another and injured nine other students and two school faculty members, according to reports.

“We are devastated to learn that one of our Providence Day students involved in the accident in Argentina has passed away,” the school said in a social media post June 24. “The entire school community is now grieving with the family. We are engaged in a school-wide effort to comfort and support our students, teachers, and friends. During this challenging time, the care and support of the family and our Providence Day community is our top priority.”

The student, identified by several local media outlets as Deven Sawyer, was a tennis player for the school and a rising senior, The Charlotte Observer reported. A local person in Buenos Aires was also killed in the June 17 accident, according to the report.
