3 Teens Charged In Shooting At East Charlotte Family Dollar

According to Charlotte police, the shooting occurred during an alleged drug deal outside an east Charlotte Family Dollar store Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Three suspects, including a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, have been arrested and charged for a Tuesday afternoon shooting that left three victims with serious injuries in what Charlotte police are describing as a drug deal that turned violent.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, two juveniles and a 17-year-old were shot during the Jan. 22 incident that occurred around 4 p.m. outside a Family Dollar store located in the 2900 block of Milton Road in Charlotte. CMPD said in a statement that, “the victims were meeting the suspects to conduct a drug transaction.”

“During the meeting, the suspects, later identified as the 14 and 15 year-old male juvenile suspects, approached the victim’s vehicle and attempted to rob them and multiple shots were fired during the incident,” CMPD said.

The three male gunshot victims were later transported my medic to Atrium Health hospital for treatment.

WSOC flew a helicopter over the scene and reported that a vehicle "appeared to have its windows shot out." Two of the three gunshot victims were found at the store location and were listed as having serious injuries, police told the station. Another victim was found at an apartment complex off Barrington Drive, less than a half mile away, where police believe they ran in an attempt to find help, the station said.

The names of the two of the suspects arrested in the case have been held by police because they are juveniles, however they have been charged with armed robbery, felony conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and attempted murder, CMPD said.

Matthew Morgan, 17, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and Schedule IV drugs.
