Found Remains Likely Charlotte Man Missing Since July: CMPD

Police received a 911 call Thursday afternoon after human remains were found in a wooded area in north Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Human remains found in a wooded area of north Charlotte appear to be Sam Davis, a Charlotte man who was reported missing by his family more than seven months ago, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were alerted to the discovery Feb. 14 shortly before 3 p.m. when it received a 911 call from someone who found the remains in the wooded area in the 4900 block of Hucks Road.

“While CMPD is awaiting positive identification from the Medical Examiner’s Office, the remains appear to be Sam Davis,” CMPD said. Davis, who would now be 26, was reported missing in that area on July 3, 2018.

“Detectives found no visible signs of trauma, and are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death,” CMPD said.

Davis was last seen leaving a home on Poplar Grove Drive in north Charlotte July 3, around 9 a.m. He was carrying a mini skateboard with green wheels, which he uses for transportation, CMPD said at the time.

"He missed important family events and is not contacting family members that he usually contacts," CMPD said. "Mr. Davis is believed to be in danger due to statements made from family and friends."

In early December, Davis’ mother made an emotional appeal in a video posted on Facebook, pleading for information about her son’s disappearance.

"This is what it really looks like to have a child who's missing and not know where they are, to be absolutely worried sick all the time and not know whether they're safe or not, this is what it really feels like when nobody's looking," Carol Mejia said.

"I'm absolutely begging — if anybody knows anything about where Sam is or what's happened to him — I'm absolutely begging you to please say something so that we can bring him home. People don't just disappear," she said through deep sobs. "I just miss him so much."

Davis' family organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a reward for information leading to his whereabouts and the circumstances of his disappearance. "We believe someone knows what happened to Sam and hope a reward will bring people forward with information and/or tips," it said. "If the money from this funding is not used as a reward it will be put into a trust fund for his son's education."
