Gun, Ammunition Found At Charlotte-Area High School: Report

The weapon and ammunition were found on the grounds of Independence High School, according to a report.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A gun and ammunition were found in a wooded area on the grounds of Independence High School Monday morning, according to a report. The discovery comes just days shy of the last day of the school year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, which is June 7.

Independence High School is located at 1967 Patriot Drive in east Charlotte.

“This morning we learned that a weapon with ammunition was found in school grounds,” Independence High School Principal David Legrand told parents in a message, WSOC reported.. “The weapon is in the custody of law enforcement and is part of an active law enforcement investigation.”

The weapon was not in a school building and did not pose a threat to students or staff members, Legrand said.
