Homicide Investigation Underway After Double Shooting

Two men were found shot early Monday morning, and one has died from his wounds. Here's what CMPD is saying about the case.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched a homicide investigation after a double shooting near Sugar Creek Community Park left one man dead in the predawn hours Monday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the shooting scene located at the intersection of Hidden Valley Road at Sugar Creek Road around 1 a.m. April 15, where they found two male victims with gunshot wounds.

One victim, who was later identified by police as 20-year-old Jamil Davis, was pronounced dead at the scene, CMPD said.

The second victim was transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his wrist, police said.

A CMPD K-9 Team was brought to the scene in an attempt to track the suspects, however they were not found. “A short time later officers located a vehicle parked a short distance away on Hidden Valley Road at Yuma Street which appears to be possibly connected to this homicide,” CMPD said.

The investigation remains ongoing and CMPD said anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide unit detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
