Man Rams, Shoots At Car With Woman, Kids Outside Police Station

CMPD arrested Kendrick Piggie and charged him with attempted murder after he shot at his ex-girlfriend outside a police station.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A woman in a car with her four children became targets Tuesday after a man repeatedly rammed the vehicle and shot at them after they pulled into an east Charlotte police station parking lot to get help.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. Feb. 19, when the victim pulled into the CMPD Hickory Grove station in the 5700 block of North Sharon Amity.

Officers found the victims in the car that had suffered “heavy damage,” CMPD said.

The victim told officers that her ex-boyfriend — identified as Kendrick Piggie, 29 — had followed her and hit her vehicle multiple times. She drove to the police station lot, where Piggie again struck the vehicle and shot a weapon several times before driving away, she said.

Neither the victim nor any of the children were injured in the incident, police said.

According to the police account, Piggie crashed his vehicle shortly after leaving the scene, then fled on foot. Officers located him with the assistance of a K-9 team and he was transported to Atrium Health with minor injuries suffered during the car crash.

Piggie was charged with attempted murder, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor, communicating threats, possession of a firearm by a felon, and five counts of shooting into an occupied conveyance.
