Charlotte House Fire Kills Child, Injures 6 Others
The fire broke out overnight in a home on Academy Street that had 10 people inside it, fire officials said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — An overnight blaze in an east Charlotte home has claimed the life of a child and left six others in critical condition Wednesday morning, fire officials said. Four of the injured are children, according to reports.
According to the Charlotte Fire Department, 10 people were inside the home in the 1900 block of Academy Street, near Garinger High School, when the fire erupted around 1 a.m. More than 30 firefighters responded to the fire, which was controlled within 30 minutes, officials said.
The seven fire victims taken to the hospital remained in critical condition from burns and smoke inhalation, and included five children, WSOC reported.

Shortly after 10 a.m., however, Charlotte Fire Department announced one of the children taken to the hospital had died.
“Charlotte Fire can confirm that the fire has resulted in the fatality of one juvenile,” it said. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation and CFD will update when Investigation is complete."
