MAYNIA DAY EVENTS – SATURDAY, MAY 5
- MIDWOOD MILES 5K: Due to a lack of available CMPD officers because of the Cinco De Mayo festivities around Charlotte, our regular Midwood Miles 5K has had to take a one-year hiatus. In its place, we’re planning a “fun run” around the neighborhood. This will be an informal run with no entry fee, registration, timers or prizes — but we will have a few helpers to get folks headed in the right direction at the start. We’ll meet for the group run at 8:30am at Midwood Park.
- COMMUNITY WORKOUT: Not a runner, but want to burn some calories before the party in the park? Join Camp Gladiator for a free community workout at 9:30am. Bring your own mat and a water bottle. Camp Gladiator is an outdoor adult boot camp with a focus on challenging, fun and community building workouts. They run morning and evening workouts every week in at Midwood Park.
- PET PARADE: We love our pets in PM. At 10 am, join neighbors for everyone’s favorite event, the Midwood Maynia Pet Parade. All canines, felines and other pets – and their humans – are eligible participants. Parade participants should gather outside The Vine Church (in the front of the sanctuary) at 9:30 am. After a Blessing of the Pets, pets & their humans will be led through the streets of Midwood. Please note this year’s parade route is a much-shortened version than we have had in the past due to limited CMPD resources – but the fun is never diminished! This is a don’t-miss event full of great photo opportunities. If you don’t participate but are on the route you can still take part by providing water bowls, treats and cheers of encouragement. There is no registration fee for the Pet Parade.
- PLANT SWAP: Bring some, trade some… Talk about your green thumb as part of the Midwood Community Garden at 11:30.
- HOME AND GARDEN TOUR: The always-anticipated Home and Garden Tour continues on Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm (an extra hour this year!). You’ll enjoy seeing inside some of the neighborhood’s most impressive homes and gardens to get tips, tricks and decorating ideas for your own home. Plus, they’ll even be some treats along the way provided by our local sponsors. Home and Garden Tour tickets can be purchased online and will be available at Slate Interiors, Moxie Mercantile, and Common Market starting April 21st for the advanced ticket price of $20. On the days of the event, tickets can be purchased for $25 in front of The Vine Church on Belvedere Ave. To get a FREE ticket, please sign up for a home tour volunteer slot!
- KIDSWOOD: If you’re a kid or a kid at heart, head back over to Midwood Park for Kidswood, a celebration with activities for our youngest residents from 11am – 2pm. Our local organizations will present a variety of kid-oriented fun. Activities may include fun projects such as sand art, painting, bird house construction, dancing and bubbles galore! In between art projects, the little ones can blow off some steam in the much-loved Bounce House.
- PARTY IN THE PARK: From noon until 7 p.m., join all the other Mayniacs in Midwood Park for food, great beer from Legion Brewing, and a variety of activities including great live local music, friends, family, and of course – sun, lots of sun!
- VENDORS IN THE PARK: Enjoy learning about community initiatives, buy art from neighborhood artists and look for other fun stuff in the Park during Maynia.
MUSIC LINEUP:
- 12:00 Dave McKenzie – Scottish Highland Piper – traditional bagpipes in honor & memory of departed friends and family
