Arrest Made In Shooting That Injured Raleigh Food Lion Worker

On June 9, three suspects were caught on surveillance video shooting at a silver or gray Jeep Compass in a parking lot.

RALEIGH, NC — Raleigh police have made an arrest following after three people shot at a Jeep in the parking lot of a Food Lion, injuring a worker. Malik Deshon Smith, 21, of Clayton, was arrested and faces multiple charges, police announced Tuesday.

On the night of June 9, three suspects were caught on surveillance video approaching a silver or gray Jeep Compass in a parking lot on the 3400 block of Poole Road. The SUV sped off during the interaction and the suspects shot at the vehicle, hitting other vehicles.

"As a result of the shooting, a Food Lion employee was injured," police said.

One suspect seen in a white t-shirt drove away in an older style work van. The other two fled to a 2008 BMW 525 sedan.

Investigators charged detectives have charged Smith with discharging a gun into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm within city limits.

He was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the Wake County Detention Center. His bond was set at $75,000, according to online court records. He's scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

An investigation remains ongoing.
