388K In NC Still In Dark: County-By-County Power Outages

On Monday evening, about 388,000 people were still without power in North Carolina as Florence moved across the state.

NORTH CAROLINA — More homes and businesses are seeing the lights turn back on as Florence, currently a tropical depression, leaves the Carolinas. The storm caused deadly flooding and downed countless trees and power lines in coastal areas, leaving hundreds of thousands of people in the dark. On Monday evening, about 388,000 people in North Carolina were without power, according to poweroutage.us. That included more than 269,000 Duke Energy customers in the state.

In coastal New Hanover County, which was hit hardest with outages, about 70,000 Duke customers were without power. More than 24,000 customers were in the dark in Carteret County. Duke previously said it expected millions of residents and businesses would be in the dark for weeks.

More than two feet of rain has fallen since Friday in some areas of North Carolina.
