List: Many North Carolina Schools Stay Closed For Damage
Hurricane Florence caused numerous North Carolina school districts to close. Some are reopening. Others were forced to remain closed.

RALEIGH, NC — Florence, which was downgraded to a tropical depression Sunday, continues to linger over the North Carolina coastline and many schools won't be able to reopen for days or weeks due to flooding and structural damage. But some have already announced they'll reopen as soon as Monday.
Below is a list of the largest school districts in the state and whether they've indicated they're reopening.
Wake County Schools
All Wake County Public School System schools will be closed for students Monday due to "after effects" of Florence on school facilities. Athletic and extracurricular events are also canceled.

Durham Public Schools
Durham Public Schools will resume operations Monday. The early release day previously scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled and that will instead be a full school day.

Cumberland County Schools
Cumberland County Schools will be closed Monday for students and all staff. A make-up day will be designated at a later time.
District staff are working to survey any damage caused by the storm and to begin any necessary preparations to ensure buildings and buses are in good condition.
All after-school activities, events and athletic events are canceled through Monday.
Moore County Schools
Moore County Schools will be closed for all students and staff Monday due to inclement weather resulting from Hurricane Florence. Parents and students should monitor the district’s Facebook page and Twitter feeds for additional information as it becomes available.
Lee County Schools
Lee County Schools will be closed for students Monday. An optional workday for staff starts at 10 a.m.
Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools
Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools will operate on a normal schedule Monday.
Hoke County Schools
Hoke County Schools will be closed for students and staff Monday.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed for students and staff Monday. All athletic practices, games and events are canceled through Monday. Extracurricular activities and field trips scheduled through Monday are cancelled, along with community use of schools events and before- and after-school enrichment programs.
Make-up days will be designated at a later time.

Guilford County Schools
Guilford County Schools students on the traditional calendar will attend classes Jan. 2 to make up the inclement weather day Friday.
Schools on non-traditional calendars did not have makeup days identified in the first semester. Makeup days for non-traditional schools are as follows:
- The Middle College at UNCG – Monday, Oct. 8
- Greensboro College Middle College – Monday, Oct. 8
- Middle Colleges and Academies – Monday, Oct. 8
- The Early College at Guilford – Friday, Oct. 12
Extended-year schools, which are scheduled for 196 days of classroom instruction this year, do not typically make up inclement weather days until after five days have been missed.
Mooresville Graded School District
Staff will be evaluating the conditions of roads and schools Sunday afternoon and will provide an update on Monday's school schedule around 4 p.m.
Iredell-Statesville Schools
Iredell-Statesville Schools administrators and staff are currently checking the status of its campuses and facilities. The district will make an announcement Sunday evening concerning school for Monday.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
No changes announced for Monday.
Union County Schools
UCPS will be closed for students and staff Monday. An update will be provided Monday about the school schedule for Tuesday. Those seeking shelter should head to Porter Ridge High School.
Johnston County Schools
Johnston County Public Schools will be closed Monday for all students and staff. On Tuesday, schools will be closed for students with an optional workday for all staff. A decision about Wednesday will be made Tuesday afternoon.
Gaston County Schools
Officials with Gaston County Schools are monitoring the forecast and are in contact with local law enforcement and emergency management personnel. Students and parents will be notified if school is delayed or canceled Monday.
Cabarrus County Schools
Cabarrus County Schools will be closed for students Monday. A make-up day will be held Sept. 28th.
New Hanover County Schools
New Hanover County Schools will be closed for students through Friday due to the impact to schools from Hurricane Florence. The district is also closed for most staff Friday and Saturday. The district will assess the damage at that point announce whether it’s safe for staff to return later in the week.
Onslow County Schools
Onslow County Schools said there will be no school for students from Monday through Friday. All after-school activities will be cancelled for the same period. Before-and after-school care will also be closed during this time. Unless notified by a supervisor, staff will not work Monday and Tuesday. Essential staff will evaluate facilities and a decision for the remainder of the week will be made.
Buncombe County Schools
No changes announced.
Pitt County Schools
Pitt County Schools will be closed for students Monday. The district will operate on an optional staff work day.
Public Schools of Robeson County
District administrators and auxiliary service departments are assessing damage to schools and district buildings. Many schools do not have power due to downed electrical lines and widespread power outages. Damage to schools and facilities includes flooding and collapsed buildings.
Once power has been restored and schools are repaired the district will be able to reopen.
Alamance-Burlington School System
ABSS staffers have been checking buildings and grounds today and things look "good to go," the district said in a statement. School operations will return to normal Monday.
Harnett County Schools
Harnett County Schools will be closed Monday to students and staff. Officials will collaborate with all emergency management resources concerning the remainder of the week.
Rowan-Salisbury Schools
Due to possible flooding in some areas, schools will be closed Monday for students. District staff should follow the inclement weather protocols and be on the lookout for a follow-up message from principals.
A make-up schedule will be announced at a later date.
Davidson County Schools
No changes announced.
Wayne County Public Schools
WCPS will be closed Monday and Tuesday for students and staff.
Randolph County School System
No changes for Monday.
Catawba County Schools
The Catawba County School system re-scheduled high school and middle school games:
Cleveland County Schools
No changes announced.
Craven County Schools
All Schools will be closed for students and staff Monday through Friday. Essential personnel should report to work Monday and Tuesday to assess buildings and clean up.
Henderson County Schools
No changes announced for Monday.
Rockingham County Schools
Rockingham County Schools plans to operate on regular schedule Monday. Officials will watch for any flood warnings throughout the week and stay in contact with the National Weather Service and local emergency personnel. Make up days will be announced once Florence has officially ended.
Burke County Public Schools
No changes announced for Monday.
Brunswick County Schools
Brunswick County Schools will be closed Monday through Friday.
Wilson County Schools
Wilson County Schools will be closed Monday through Friday for all students and staff because of flooding, impassible roads and rising water levels in the eastern and southern portions of our county.
Caldwell County Schools
Due to unsafe weather conditions, schools are closed for students and staff Monday.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
Make-up dates have been announced for lost school days on Thursday and Friday. They are listed on the approved district calendar. The first two make-up dates are Wednesday and Nov. 21.
Lincoln County Schools
No changes announced for Monday.
Duplin County Schools
Duplin County Schools will close Monday through Wednesday for students and staff. Further updates will be provided as needed.
Wilkes County Schools
No changes announced.
Pender County Schools
School based emergency shelters throughout Pender County suffered damages but currently house about 1,000 people. Officials said there was substantial damage to multiple school buildings that will need to be repaired before students will be allowed back. Pender County Schools will be closed for students and staff from Monday to Sept. 21.
Lenoir County Public Schools
Schools will be closed to students and staff at least through Wednesday.
Chatham County Schools
Chatham County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Monday for students and staff. The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood watch for the county until 8 a.m. Monday.
The delayed opening provides drivers with additional visibility and it offers time for the transportation officials to report road blockages. All CCS schools had power heading into Monday.
Sampson County Schools
All Sampson County Schools and offices will be closed Monday and will remain closed indefinitely.
Stanly County Schools
All Stanly County Schools will be closed for students and staff Monday. The instructional day will be made up on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The district will continue to monitor weather-related issues and communicate Tuesday's operating schedule after lunch Monday.
Staff will have two options for making up time for Monday: Use comp time or leave time, or work Saturday, Sept. 22.
Rutherford County Schools
No changes announced. Any decisions to alter regular schedules will be made available as quickly as possible on social media the district website, via the all-call system and through local media.
Franklin County Schools
Franklin County Schools will operate on a normal schedule Monday for all staff and students.
Carteret County Public Schools
The Carteret County Public School System will remain closed from Monday through Friday for students and staff. School buildings throughout the county were damaged. Staff started assessing the damage Saturday and are arranging for repairs.
Surry County Schools
Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, Monday with an option to close. The decision to close will be made by 8 a.m. Monday.
Haywood County Schools
No changes announced.
Granville County Schools
No changes announced.
