UPDATED: North Carolina Schools Closing Due To Hurricane Florence
With Hurricane Florence nearing the North Carolina coastline, numerous school districts have announced closures.

RALEIGH, NC — Hurricane Florence is on track to make landfall Thursday or Friday and many North Carolina school districts have announced early dismissals and closures.
Here are the closures we've confirmed so far, as well as the ones that haven't announced any changes.
Wake County Schools
The Wake County Public School System announced Tuesday that all schools will dismiss 2 1/2 hours early Thursday and will be closed Friday. After-school activities are canceled both days. The Wake County college fair Sunday is also canceled.

Durham Public Schools
Durham Public Schools will dismiss three hours early Thursday. The district will close Friday. All after-school activities will be canceled beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After-school and athletic events Wednesday will go on as scheduled.
Cumberland County Schools
Cumberland County Schools announced Tuesday it will release student three hours early Wednesday. Prime Time before- and after-school care programs will close two hours after schools dismiss. The district will close Thursday and Friday for all students and staff.

Moore County Schools
Moore County Schools announced Tuesday that they will close Thursday and Friday for all students and staff.
Lee County Schools
Lee County Schools announced Tuesday that its schools will open Wednesday, but after-school activities that day are canceled. Schools will close Thursday and Friday for all staff.
Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools
Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools will dismiss students early Wednesday. The district will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Hoke County Schools
Hoke County Schools announced Tuesday that schools will dismiss early Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District
CMS schools will be closed for students and staff Thursday and Friday. All CMS athletic practices, games and events are cancelled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Extracurricular activities and field trips scheduled for Thursday or Friday are cancelled. Before- and after-school enrichment programs are also cancelled. Make-up days will be designated a later time.
Several CMS school campuses will be used as emergency shelters. Emergency shelters open today for evacuees at CMS high school campuses including East Mecklenburg, South Mecklenburg, North Mecklenburg, Olympic and Ardrey Kell. Emergency shelters at additional schools may also be opened.
Guilford County Schools
Guilford County Schools has not announced any changes.
Mooresville Graded School District
The Mooresville Graded School District said in a statement it is closely following the forecast and predictions for Hurricane Florence. No changes have been announced.
Iredell-Statesville Schools
Iredell-Statesville Schools says it is monitoring the storm and is in close contact with emergency teams. High school varsity games have been rescheduled for either Wednesday or Thursday. No athletic events will happen Friday. As of noon Tuesday, schools are scheduled to remain open on a normal schedule this week.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
No changes announced.
Union County Schools
The Union County district said it is monitoring local, regional and national weather reports related to Hurricane Florence and is in close contact with emergency teams. As of now, there are no changes to school schedules this week. Updates will be posted to social media channels and emails, as well as other mediums.
Johnston County Schools
Johnston County Schools will dismiss two hours early Wednesday. All after-school and evening activities are cancelled that day. School will be closed for staff and students Thursday and Friday.
Gaston County Schools
No changes announced.
Cabarrus County Schools
Varsity football games have been rescheduled. Junior Varsity teams will not play this week.
New Hanover County Schools
New Hanover County Schools will be closed to students and most staff members Tuesday through Friday.
Onslow County Schools
Onslow County Schools will close for all students Tuesday through Friday. All after-school activities will be cancelled for the same period. Before- and after-school care will also be closed.
Buncombe County Schools
No changes announced.
Pitt County Schools
Pitt County Schools will dismiss three hours early Wednesday and all after school activities are canceled. All schools will close for students and staff Thursday and Friday.
Public Schools of Robeson County
The Public Schools of Robeson County said all schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday. Extracurricular activities, school-sponsored events and driver's ed classes are all canceled.
Alamance-Burlington School System
The Alamance-Burlington School System said Wednesday it will cancel all after school and evening activities Thursday. Daycare sites at schools will operate on regular schedule Thursday afternoon.
"We will continue to closely monitor weather reports as information about the hurricane forecast is updated to determine if any other schedule changes are needed," the district said.
Harnett County Schools
Harnett County Schools will release two hours early Wednesday for students and staff. All after-school activities, including practices and events, are canceled beginning Wednesday afternoon. The district will be closed Thursday and Friday for staff and students.
Rowan-Salisbury Schools
All after-school activities are canceled Thursday and Friday. All Varsity Friday night football games have been moved to Wednesday night.
Davidson County Schools
No changes announced.
Wayne County Public Schools
Wayne County Public Schools announced Tuesday that all after-school programs and school sponsored events are canceled Tuesday. The district will be closed Wednesday through Friday for students and staff. All campuses – except those which may be designated by the Wayne County Emergency Operations Center as an Emergency Shelter – will remain closed throughout the weekend to the public. All middle and high school athletic competitions are canceled for the remainder of the week. The district will reevaluate the conditions of each campus after the storm to determine if additional measures are necessary next week.
Randolph County School System
The Randolph County School System rescheduled all middle school football games from Wednesday to Tuesday.
Catawba County Schools
The Catawba County School system re-scheduled high school and middle school games:
Cleveland County Schools
No changes announced.
Craven County Schools
Craven County Schools will be closed for students and staff from Wednesday through through Friday. Essential Personnel should report to work Wednesday only.
Henderson County Schools
Henderson County Schools is in communication with emergency management officials and is monitoring the storm's progress.
Rockingham County Schools
Rockingham County Schools will close 2 hours early Thursday (childcare will close at 4 p.m.) and will be closed Friday. On Friday, all schools will operate on a Plan 3, this means students and staff do not report and childcare is closed. Following the weather event, the district will provide school re-opening information based on the evaluation of county and facility conditions.
Burke County Public Schools
High school varsity football games in the Burke County district have been rescheduled to new times and dates:
Draughn at Avery, 7 p.m. Wednesday
East Rutherford at Patton, 6:30 p.m. Thursday
East Burke at West Lincoln, 7 p.m. Thursday
Freedom has a bye scheduled this week.
Brunswick County Schools
Brunswick County Schools will be closed Tuesday through Friday due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Florence. The Board of Education meeting at South Brunswick High School was postponed indefinitely. All focus in the school system right now is on Hurricane Florence planning/preps and the safety of students, staff, and the community.
Wilson County Schools
Traditional schools: Students will dismiss early Wednesday. Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday for all students and staff.
High schools dismiss at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, elementary schools at 1 p.m., middle schools at 1:30 p.m. and preschool students should be picked up by 3 p.m.
After-school care program will not be open Wednesday and will not open the rest of the week as an option for childcare. All evening activities including practices and athletics are cancelled.
Early colleges: Wilson Community College, the Wilson Early College Academy and the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology will be closed for staff and students Wednesday through Monday.
Caldwell County Schools
No changes announced.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
All schools and district offices for
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. Additionally, all weekend activities will be cancelled.
Lincoln County Schools
Lincoln County Schools is currently monitoring the weather forecast for this week, weekend, and into next week. District leaders are in contact with emergency teams the sheriff's office, police and other public service groups. LCS will notify parents, students, and staff as soon as possible should there be any changes to our normal school operation due to weather related issues.
Duplin County Schools
Duplin County Schools will close Wednesday through Friday.
Wilkes County Schools
No changes announced.
Pender County Schools
Pender County Schools will be closed for students and non-essential staff Tuesday through Friday. All after school activities, including the Pender County Board of Education Meeting, have been canceled.
The district is in close communication with emergency management officials and will continue to monitor this storm and keep parents informed should the closing schedule need to be extended. Several schools will likely become Red Cross shelters in the coming days.
Lenoir County Public Schools
All Lenoir County Public Schools will be closed for all students and staff Wednesday through Friday.
Chatham County Schools
Chatham County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday and Friday.
Sampson County Schools
Sampson County Schools will dismiss three hours early for students and staff on Wednesday. The school system will be closed Thursday and Friday for all students and staff. The following shelters will be opened Wednesday at 1 p.m.: Clinton High School, Union Elementary School, Hobbton Middle School, Midway High School, and Lakewood High School.
Stanly County Schools
Stanly County Schools will release at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. School is canceled Friday. All after school activities are canceled until schools reopen.
Rutherford County Schools
No changes announced.
Franklin County Schools
All Franklin County Schools are closed Thursday and Friday for students and staff. All school-related events, activities, and rentals are canceled from Thursday through the weekend.
Carteret County Public Schools
Because of the approaching storm and the planned start of the evacuation of Carteret County tomorrow, all Carteret County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday through Friday.
Surry County Schools
Surry County Schools are in communication with emergency officials and are currently monitoring the storm. Any decisions regarding changes to school schedules will be made in consultation with those officials.
Haywood County Schools
No changes announced.
Granville County Schools
Granville County Schools are canceled for all students and staff Thursday and Friday. All after school activities and athletics are cancelled Wednesday. After-school programs will close at 5 p.m.
Northern Granville Middle School is an official public shelter that should only be used as a last resort.
