Raleigh DAR Chapter Honors Veterans with Wreaths Across America

Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR helped place wreaths on 4,939 graves in Raleigh National Cemetery

RALEIGH, NC: The Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR honored the veterans buried in Raleigh National Cemetery with Wreaths Across America on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Members of the chapter, alongside community volunteers, placed wreaths on 4,939 graves and said each veteran’s name aloud in remembrance of their lives, service, and legacy.

Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a women’s service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today’s DAR is dynamic and diverse, with over 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. DAR members annually provide millions of hours of volunteer service to their local communities across the country and world. DAR chapters participate in projects to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Over one million members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890.
