RALEIGH, NC — The 21-year-old man found dead over the weekend in Raleigh's Northshore community was apparently a suspect in a convenience store robbery and was shot by an employee. The body of Derrick Malik Wiley was found outside on the 4200 block of Waterbury Road late Saturday, police said.

Police later said Wiley, who was shot in the leg, was suspected in a robbery at a Mini Mart on the 5500 block of Old Wake Forest Road. The robbery apparently happened the same evening he was shot.

"During the incident, an employee and Wiley exchanged gunfire," police said in a release, noting no other injuries were reported.
