Here are the top 5 stories in Raleigh today

  1. Raleigh is seeing a huge influx of tech jobs. Positions have surged 60% year-over-year to 10,831 in Raleigh alone. "Employers are looking to invest in resources and skills that can make up for the last year of delayed progress and stunted innovation," says a report from the NC Technology Association. (WRAL Tech Wire)
  2. The North Carolina Board of Elections has agreed to Republicans' rule change allowing more poll observers. The new rule will allow for the precinct-specific observer list to include eight names as opposed to two. (NCGOP)
  3. The newest State Senate budget proposal sacrifices raises for teachers and other state employees in favor of deeper tax cuts. A majority of state employees would see a bonus out of federal pandemic relief funds from $1,000-$1,500, but only a 1.5% pay raise. (WRAL)
  4. The paramedic who was shot Saturday at a celebration in the park was released late that night. The shooter has not been identified, however it is believed by authorities that the paramedic was not intentionally targeted. (EMS1)
  5. The body of a Charlotte man was found in a lake near Raleigh. Jamal Brinson was found after a 24-hour search in Falls Lake. Witnesses say he drowned after jumping in the lake to retrieve a piece of clothing that had been blown off a boat rented by him and friends. (WCCB)
