Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- More details about the venomous zebra cobra's TikTok famous owner have been released. It turns out, that this is not the first incident of negligence with dangerous exotic snakes. In April, Christopher Glifford was rushed to the hospital after being bitten by his own West African Green Mamba. (abc11)
- Since the height of the pandemic 15 months ago, WakeMed has seen consistent new COVID-19 patients in their ICU. That is, until this weekend. This past weekend was the first time there was a 72-hour window with no ICU COVID-19 patients. Staff got the opportunity to step back and reflect on the last year and a half. (CBS17)
- North Carolina is currently the state that allows for the youngest prosecution in the nation. Children as young as 6 are able to be prosecuted in juvenile court, however a new bipartisan effort is pushing to raise that age to 10. The age of 6 was originally set as an avenue for getting kids and their families resources they need, however in modern days it disproportionately sees Black children being persecuted. (Click2Houston)
- The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences has a new exhibit featuring a lunar meteorite. The meteorite gives scientists the opportunity to study parts of the moon that are unknown to us. The exhibit also includes a video that transports viewers to Apollo 17 and down lunar sample collection trails. (WRAL)
- The Wake County School Board is moving forward with policy changes on internet device monitoring. The proposed change would allow network-connected devices to be monitored, and outlines specifics of how school officials can use that information. Opponents of the change are concerned that it has the potential to target and punish specific students instead of reviewing widespread internet use. (WRAL)
