BISMARCK, ND — The first people jailed for protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota appealed to the state's Supreme Court.
Mary Redway, 64, of Rhode Island, and Alexander Simon of Lamy, 27, of New Mexico, were convicted on Oct. 19 of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Redway served four days in jail and Simon 12 days.
Both are appealing their convictions, along with fellow protester Kevin Decker, 46, of Missouri, the Bismarck Tribune reported. He also was convicted of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was sentenced in February to a year of probation and $1,585 in fines and fees.
