3 Major Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs, Furloughs

Hundreds of Ohio workers will either be laid off or have extended furloughs.

COLUMBUS, OH — Three major Ohio companies announced layoffs or furloughs last week, according to filings with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Ascena Retail Group, which operates a variety of retail clothing lines including Lane Bryant and Catherines, announced additional layoffs at facilities throughout central Ohio. The company is laying off additional workers at the Morse Crossing Facility, effective in November, and at other retail stores in the area.

Northeast Ohio's Arrow International is extending the furlough of 171 employees. In its letter to the state, the company said it originally expected its furloughs to last six months or less. While some workers have been brought back, on a staggered, as-needed basis, other will remain furloughed longer than six months.

  • Arrow International, Cleveland — 171 employees
  • Tween Brands, New Albany — 163 employees
  • Ascena Retail Group, Columbus — 186 employees
