4 Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs At End Of November
As COVID-19 continues to spread in Ohio, the state's retail and hospitality industries are suffering.
COLUMBUS, OH — A major retailer and hotel group announced layoffs as November came to a close.
The Ascena Retail Group announced layoffs in its Tween Brands and Catherine Stores, while the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel also announced layoffs. Core Composites Cincinnati, a manufacturer in southern Ohio will lose 99 employees after a major client moved away from Ohio.
The majority of the Ascena layoffs come from the Tween Brands, where 127 employees will be laid off. In a letter to the state, the company said the layoffs would be final by Jan. 24, 2021.

The Renaissance Hotel Management Company blamed COVID-19 for its own layoffs.
"Since the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis began, the hospitality industry has faced many unprecedented challenges. A careful review of recent business forecasts shows that challenging business conditions, including event cancellations and low occupancy, will extend into 2021 and beyond," the company said in a letter.
