8,000 New Coronavirus Cases In Ohio, New Milestone

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio has again broken the record for most COVID-19 cases in a single day, this time recording more than 8,000 cases in 24 hours.

Hospitalizations also continue on an upward trajectory, with 298 Ohioans being admitted to medical facilities for COVID-19 treatment. The Buckeye State has seen an average of 190 people per day admitted to hospitals for coronavirus treatment.

Gov. Mike DeWine has threatened to re-close bars, restaurants and fitness centers to try and tamp down the spread of the virus. He has also re-issued the state's mask mandate, with stricter penalties for businesses that allow unmasked patrons.

Hospitals are increasingly strained by the resurgent virus, with the Cleveland Clinic delaying some non-essential surgeries, and medical officials from across the state warning of staff shortages due to the virus.

• New hospitalizations: 298
