Happy Hippo: Baby Fiona Takes A Jog And Then A Pool Plunge

Maybe she was happy for the holidays. Perhaps, she was working off a Thanksgiving feast. Regardless, this young zoo star looks plain happy.

CINCINNATI, OH – Fiona, the baby Nile hippopotamus, has become a starlet at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. On Sunday, she flashed a bit more of that winning personality – and her joyful antics were caught on video by zookeepers.

Fiona took an ecstatic jog around her enclosure before plunging into her pool. Video of Fiona's workout was shared via the Cincinnati Zoo's Instagram feed.

"Most young animals are playful but we think Fiona got an extra dose of personality!" say the zookeepers in the post.

Fiona has been called the "world's most beloved hippopotamus." Born in January, six weeks prematurely and weighting 29 pounds, well below the common 50-100 pound range, she required nonstop critical care by zookeepers to ensure her survival.

Then in October, the photogenic Fiona helped make the engagement of a young couple one of the most memorable moments of the year when she photobombed Nick Kelble's proposal to Hayley Roll in front of Fiona's glass enclosure.
