More Than 10,000 New Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Ohio

For four straight days, Ohio has confirmed more than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single, 24-hour period.

COLUMBUS, OH — For the fourth straight day, Ohio has confirmed more than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day.

In the past 24 hours, 10,359 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among Ohioans, the state health department announced. Ohio is now averaging 9,847 COVID-19 cases per day.

At least 128 Ohioans have died from COVID-19 complications in the past day, according to the Ohio Department of Health. That's the most COVID deaths recorded in a day since Dec. 4, when 129 deaths were confirmed. The state is averaging 70 COVID-19 deaths per day.

On Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine extended a curfew in Ohio. The curfew will be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. DeWine urged Ohioans to not gather in large numbers to watch sporting events.

However, DeWine did grant curfew exceptions to late-night games like the Cleveland Browns upcoming contest against the Baltimore Ravens. The governor said fans gathering at stadiums isn't spreading the virus, but intimate watch parties are. He encouraged Ohio sports fans to watch events in their own household.

The curfew will remain in place until at least Jan. 2, 2021.

The Ohio Department of Health presumes that 361,308 people have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19.
