Ohio Extends Deadline For Renewing Expired Drivers Licenses

The state has extended the lifespan of expired drivers licenses, vehicle registrations and ID cards.

OHIO — Ohio has again extended the life of expired driver licenses, identification cards and vehicle registrations.

If an Ohio drivers license, ID card or vehicle registration has an expiration date between March 9, 2020 and April 1, 2021, the expiration date has been automatically extended until July 1, 2021.

The extension comes after Ohio House Bill 404 was signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine. The legislation automatically extended the life of set-to-expire identifications. Officials said the extension was necessary due to the continue spread of COVID-19.

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has moved much of its services online. Customers can purchase a temporary tag for their car, renew their vehicle registration, order new license plates, or check their driving record online.

If a customer needs to visit a brick-and-mortar BMV location, they can use the "Get in Line, Online" tool. The app allows customers to queue up online, minimizing the amount of time physically spent at the agency.
