Ohio To Get Additional 19,500 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio will receive 89,700 doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine on Christmas Eve.

That's 19,500 more doses than projected last week, an Ohio Department of Health spokesperson confirmed.

Last week, Patch broke news that Ohio would receive 70,200 doses, rather than the 123,000 doses previously anticipated. Since that story, Pfizer has announced it would ship an additional 19,500 doses to the Buckeye State, bringing this week's total shipment to 89,700 doses.

The Ohio Department of Health said an additional shipment of 69,700 Moderna doses will arrive later this week. The new doses will go to hospitals that have not yet received vaccinations from the first allocation.

Health officials will also start the second phase of the Pharmacy Long-Term Care Partnership program, which allows vaccines to be distributed to assisted living facilities and other congregate care situations.

As of Wednesday morning, 8,453 Ohioans have started the COVID-19 vaccination process (which requires two shots). Less than 1 percent of the state's total population has started the vaccination process.
