Ohioans 50+ Can Receive COVID-19 Vaccine Starting Thursday

Gov. Mike DeWine said it was time to further expand vaccine eligibility.

COLUMBUS, OH — Starting Thursday, Ohioans 50 and older can receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ohio will also vaccinate residents with diabetes, Type 1 or Type 2, and anyone with end-stage renal disease can receive the vaccine.

Gov. Mike DeWine said the new phase of vaccine rollout will include more than 1 million Ohioans. This week, more than 20 percent of Ohioans are likely to have received at least the first part of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ohio also launched its first statewide vaccine registration tool, which can be accessed online.

Here are all of Monday's COVID-19 numbers:

  • New cases: 1,254.
  • New hospitalizations: 84.
  • New ICU admissions: 16.

At least 927,244 Ohioans have contracted COVID-19 and recovered, the Ohio Department of Health said. As of Monday, 830 Ohioans were in hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, a significant drop from a month ago.

More than 17 percent of Ohioans have received at least the first part of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state health department. More than 9.5 percent of Ohioans have received both COVID-19 vaccine shots.

As of Monday afternoon, 1.99 million Ohioans had received at least the first shot and 1.13 million Ohioans have completed the vaccination process.
