'Very Dangerous' Possibility Of Ohioans Contracting Flu, COVID-19
Gov. Mike DeWine is urging Ohioans to get a flu vaccine as soon as possible.
COLUMBUS, OH — The threat of contracting both the flu and COVID-19 has state leaders and health officials concerned.
"While the flu can be deadly on its own, we also are concerned that Ohioans who get both the flu and COVID-19 at the same time could become severely, if not fatally, ill. Anyone who can get vaccinated against the flu should do so," Gov. Mike DeWine said.
DeWine urged Ohioans to get flu vaccinations as soon as possible. He said the vaccine is available for anyone 6 months and older. Children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years should get two doses of the flu vaccine because they are at heightened risk. Families should consult a physician before getting two vaccines for their child.

"If you are elderly and need help getting to your physician or a location that offers flu shots, we encourage older Ohioans to contact their local Area Agency on Aging at

To encourage his fellow Ohioans to get vaccines, DeWine and his wife Fran, and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, both received their vaccine shots during a live news conference on Thursday afternoon.
Ohioans who do not have a primary care physician can find a place to get a vaccine via VaccineFinder.org.
Husted added that should a COVID-19 vaccine be developed soon, a stymied flu season would free up storage space for that vaccine.
"Please get out and get your flu vaccine. I cannot stress enough how critically important it is this year," DeWine said.
