3 Avon High School Students Earn First Place Art Honors
The Lorain County Regional Scholastic Art Exhibition honored more than 40 Avon students. Three were named first place winners.

AVON, OH - Avon High School is home to a large number of talented artists. More affirmation of this came recently when 40 students earned awards from the Lorain County Regional Scholastic Art Exhibition.
For 50 years, the Lorain County Regional Scholastic Art Exhibition has been recognizing students in grades 7-12 for their work in visual arts. The 2017 exhibition kicked off Jan. 17 and includes artwork from 17 Avon High School (AHS) artists with 41 works earning recognition from Avon High School. Three students advance to the national show in New York City.
The Scholastic Art Awards is the largest art competition for students in the nation. Schools throughout the US and Canada will enter submissions. Avon High School submitted 87 pieces for consideration.

Avon's Breanna Collin received the Gold Key as one of five selected as “Best in Show,” earning the prestigious American Vision Award. Collin will advance to the national show in New York City. Mallory Stow and Julie Penzvalto were also recognized as Gold Key winners.
Another 15 AHS students took home second place Silver Keys, while 23 AHS students received Honorable Mentions.

The exhibit is hosted at the Stocker Center gallery on the campus of Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria. A special reception for all artists is being held Jan. 29. A closing awards ceremony and reception will be held on Feb. 19 for the Gold Key winners.
