3 Avon Lake Students Named National Merit Finalists
The students will compete against other elite academic performers for college scholarships.
AVON LAKE, OH — Three Avon Lake High students have been named National Merit Finalists.
The three students are John "Jack" Fazio, Emmet Fink, and Grace Osoteo. The trio have an opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $30 million. Scholarship winners will be announced later this year.
More than 1.5 million students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program annually. Only 16,000 students become semifinalists. Approximately 15,000 students become finalists. Scholarship winners will be announced in late March.

John "Jack" Fazio, 17, is considering Miami University (Ohio), Ohio State University, Dartmouth College, Cornell University, Vanderbilt University and University of Virginia. They are considering majoring in either microbiology or statistics.

Fazio enjoys photography, running, swimming and coaching swimmers. Fazio is the child of Stephen and Jennifer Fazio.
Emmet Fink, 17, is the child of Doug and Elise Fink. They enjoy golf, tennis and playing and listening to music. Fink is considering attending Ohio State University, where they would major in mathematics and education.
Grace Osoteo, 18, is the child of Mark and Julie Osoteo. They enjoy playing guitar, playing Dungeons & Dragons, playing video games and reading.
Osoteo is considering attending University of Michigan, Duke University, Carnegie Mellon University, Yale University and San Diego State University. They want to major in music theater and another as-yet-undetermined focus.
