7 Avon City Schools Tested For Lead

Avon East, Heritage North and Holy Trinity were among the schools tested for lead in tap water.

To prevent a crisis like Flint, Michigan occurring in Avon, Mayor Bryan Jensen had city schools' water tested for lead, according to Cleveland.com. The water was deemed clean by Lorain County General Health District and Avon Lake officials.

Seven schools were tested: Avon East Elementary, Heritage North Elementary, Heritage South Elementary, Avon Village Elementary, Avon High School, Holy Trinity School and St. Mary School.

Tests came back reading less than 15s parts per billion — the measurement set by the Environmental Protection Agency that would require action take place.

Anthony Lorenzo, Avon's superintendent of utilities, said since he's started, "We have never found lead in a service line in the city."

The testing was a precautionary measure and not a reaction to finding lead in Avon pipes, but the city does test groups of homes older than 1986 every three years.
