Another Car Stolen From Avon Lake Home

Police spotted the stolen car on Rebecca Lane, but the driver avoided officers.

AVON LAKE, OH — Police pursued two suspicious cars through Avon Lake, according to records.

On Jan. 7, an officer on Rebecca Lane spotted two suspicious vehicles. He tried to stop the cars, but they instead sped away.

As the vehicles sped off, officers were able to read the license plate on one of the cars and determined it had been stolen from a home in Avon Lake.

Four cars were stolen from Avon Lake homes days before the car chase. The stolen cars were taken from homes on Belmont Drive and Rebecca Lane, where the suspicious vehicles were first spotted.

Several of Cleveland's western suburbs have reported similar car thefts in the past six months. Avon Lake police said suspects will go to a suburb during the early morning and search for unlocked cars. They're specifically looking for unlocked cars with keys inside. Suspects will sometimes use a garage door remote from a car to go into a home and look for keys.

Police said the suspects work in groups of three or four, based on surveillance footage.

"We ask the public to contact the police rather than confronting any suspicious individuals," an Avon Lake police spokesperson said.
