Avon Baseball Ranked 8th In Ohio Division I

The second Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll has the team ranked in the top ten for Division I.

AVON, OH - The Avon High School baseball team is once again among the ten best teams in Division I, according to the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Associations (OHSBCA). The team is currently 13-1 on the season.

The poll, which was released April 23, has the Avon boys ranked eighth in Division I. The number one team in Division I is Jackson, which has compiled a 12-0 record to begin the season.

Avon was ranked eighth in the first OHSBCA poll, when the team had a 9-1 record. However, Mason, which had been ranked seventh, dropped to ninth in the week two poll. Steele High School moved to seventh, leapfrogging Avon in the process.

Avon is coached by Frank DeSmit, a 1982 graduate of Avon Lake High School. DeSmit was inducted into the Avon Lake High School Hall of Fame in 2015. He has been the varsity baseball coach since 2008.

The Eagles rallied on April 21 to defeat Medina High School. The boys of Avon's summer scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 4-3. The Eagles will return to action April 24 against Midview High School, before playing Lakewood High School on April 27.
