Baby Eagle Watch Continues: Second Eagle Egg Laid In Avon Lake

The last day of February saw a second egg appear in a nest near Redwood Elementary School.

AVON LAKE, OH — A second eagle egg has been laid in a nest near Redwood Elementary. School officials say the second egg appeared in the nest on Feb. 28 at about 6:30 p.m. A third egg could be laid soon.

Stars and Stripes, the two adult eagles that live in the nest, laid their first egg of 2018 last week. The mother laid the egg at about 6:40 p.m., which appears to be prime egg laying time.

Eagles usually lay eggs in groupings of about two to three. The eggs are laid two to three days apart. A third egg could appear this weekend or earlier. The eggs take between 36 and 38 days to hatch. That means there could be baby eagles during the first week of April.
