Blue, Gold Star Mothers Invited To Avon Lake Memorial Ceremony

Blue Star and Gold Star mothers can participate in this year's Avon Lake Memorial Day Ceremony.

AVON LAKE, OH — Blue Star and Gold Star mothers are invited to participate in the 2021 Avon Lake Memorial Day Ceremony.

The ceremony is returning after it was put on hiatus during COVID-19. The 2021 ceremonies will be held at Veterans Memorial Park, 32765 Lake Road, on May 31. The ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m., though the Memorial Day Parade will start at 10 a.m.

"The City of Avon Lake would like to recognize and honor the Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers for the service of their veteran son or daughter. Names will not be used to protect privacy," city officials said in a statement.

Mothers interested in participating in the event should contact Mary Krupar, assistant
to Mayor Gregory Zilka, at 440-933-6141 Ext. 1021 or by emailing
AvonLakeMemorialDay@AvonLake.org.

The Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. at Avon Lake High, 175 Avon Belden Road. The parade winds through the city and ends at Veterans Memorial Park, where a ceremony will be held by city officials.

"The City of Avon Lake is committed to the health and safety of the community and will follow all COVID-19 guidelines in effect from the State of Ohio at the time of the event," the city said in a statement.
