Cancer Treatment Center To Open In Avon

AVON, OH — University Hospitals will open the Seidman Cancer Center in Avon in September 2021.

The Seidman Cancer Center cost $31 million to construct. The facility spans 35,000 feet and two floors. Patients can receive both radiation oncology and medical oncology when the center opens. Patients can also access services at the adjacent UH Avon Health Center, including laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, urgent care and a fitness center.

“Our intent was to create a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, which will provide the residents of Lorain County and surrounding communities leading-edge cancer care close to home,” said Dr. Ted Teknos, president of UH Seidman Cancer Center. “In addition to medical and radiation oncology services, patients will have access to a vast array of clinical trials, as well as social work, financial counseling and a myriad of other supportive services.”

The facility is currently under construction at the campus of the UH Avon Health Center, located at the intersection of Detroit Road and Rt. 83. The Seidman Cancer Center is part of the National Cancer Institute and one of only 51 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation.

Numerous women-owned and minority-owned business have been contracted to construct the Seidman Cancer Center, hospital system officials said. Some business working on the project include: Boss Union Contracting, Nova Structural Steel, KLE Construction, Meridian Construction Service, and Mars Electric Company.
