Cars Broken Into At Avon Lake School

A group of suspects were taken into custody after they broke into two cars at Erieview Elementary, Avon Lake police said.

AVON LAKE, OH — A group of people broke into cars parked at Erieview Elementary School.

On Thursday, a 51-year-old woman contacted Avon Lake police and said someone had broken into her car. Police believe the suspects also broke into a second vehicle in the school parking lot, according to police reports.

Purses, credit cards, cash, gift cards, loose change and other items were stolen from the vehicles, police said.

Investigators were able to track the stolen cards when they were used at a Giant Eagle. The cards were then used at other stores outside of Avon Lake.

Police then identified four people and took them into custody in Westlake. The arrested people come from Florida and Texas, according to police reports.

Five other people were listed as possible suspects in the case. Those five also come from Florida and Texas.

On Thursday, five people were taken into custody in Westlake after they tried to drive away from police and crashed into a PNC bank. The five people taken into custody were also from Florida and Texas, Westlake police said, and they were possibly connected to crimes in other cities.
