Duck Tape's Prom Fashion Challenge Offers College Scholarships
The Avon-based company offers college scholarships for high school students who design "fashion-forward" prom outfits using Duck Tape.
AVON, OH — Whether prom is being held virtually or in-person in 2021, students will have a chance to craft do-it-yourself fashion-forward prom outfits using Duck Tape...and win a college scholarship in the process.
The annual Stuck at Prom contest has returned for 2021, the Duck Tape brand announced. Up to $25,000 in scholarships and prizes will be distributed through the contest.
"Last year, students across the country used their extra time at home to get crafty and flex their artistic skills. Despite the pandemic and uncertainty of proms, we had more Stuck at Prom entries than ever before — their creativity was astonishing. In fact, one of our 2020 Stuck at Prom winners made a coronavirus-themed ball gown," said Ashley Luke, senior product manager at Shurtape Technologies, LLC, the company that markets the Duck brand.

High school students in the U.S. and Canada can upload photos and videos of their dress or tuxedo (made of Duck tape). After the entry period, judges will pick 10 finalists, five in each category (dresses and tuxes).
Creations will be judged on criteria like use of color, workmanship, originality and design. Judges will also consider how Duck tape was used in the creation of the dress or tuxedo and accessories.
The public will then vote online to crown two grand prize winners — one for best dress and one for best tux. The two winners will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. Eight runners up will receive $500 scholarships and Duck brand prize packs worth $100.
Here are contest dates to remember:
- Entry period: March 31 through June 9
- Judging period: June 10 through June 18
- Community voting on finalists: June 30 through July 14
- Grand prize winners announced: On or around July 21
