Former Avon Lake City Councilperson Dies From Illness

Gary Izo died Saturday morning following a sudden illness, city officials announced.

AVON LAKE, OH — Former Avon Lake Councilperson Gary Izo died Saturday morning, following a sudden illness, the city announced.

"Gary's love for the City of Avon Lake showed in his enthusiastic participation. He was a great advocate for residents of not only Ward 3 but the entire City through his service on citywide committees. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Ann, and his family. We will share details about arrangements as they become available. Rest in peace, Gary, until we meet again," said Jennifer Fenderbosch, Avon Lake Councilwoman Ward 2.

Izo was briefly the councilperson for Ward 3, the former chair of the Sewer Committee, and a member of the Economic Development Committee, Natural Resources, Environmental & Public Media Committee, and the Walker Road Ad Hoc Committee. He was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals from March 2018 to December 2019. He took the position of Ward 3 councilperson in January 2020.

He resigned his position as Ward 3 councilperson in September due to his illness. He told council the side effects of his treatments would affect his ability to serve the city.
