Friday's Avon Vs Avon Lake Playoff Football Game Has High Stakes

The Eagles and Shoremen will face-off on Friday night for a chance at a state football championship.

AVON, OH — On Friday night, the Avon Lake Shoremen and the Avon Eagles will face-off for a ticket to the state's final four football playoff round. The winning team will be two games away from a state title in Division II.

The game will be played at a neutral site — North Ridgeville Ranger Stadium. Kick-off is 7 p.m.

The Eagles are 12-0 and the Shoremen are 11-1. The Shoremen's only loss on the season came in the opening week against the Eagles. The Eagles will look to assert their dominance over their rivals, while the Shoremen will be looking for revenge.

To add to the already towering stakes for Friday's game, the mayors and superintendents from Avon Lake and Avon have placed friendly wagers on the contest. The losers will have to eat lunch in the other high school's cafeteria, while wearing football jerseys. Donations will also be made to Community Resource Services in the name of the winning community.

Coincidentally, Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen is an Avon Lake High graduate and Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka is a graduate of Avon High.
