High Wind Warning Issued For Lorain County

Wind gusts could hit 60 mph on Tuesday, the National Weather Service warned.

AVON, OH — A high wind warning has been issued for Lorain County on Wednesday. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph will sweep through the area, the National Weather Service warned.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the National Weather Service said.

The timing of the wind storm couldn't be worse. Wednesday is the most popular travel day of the year, with millions of Americans expected to hit the road in advance of Thanksgiving.

The high wind warning will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday. Sustained winds of up to 40 mph are expected, but gusts could hit 60 mph, Lorain County officials added.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive," the National Weather Service said.
