High Wind Warning Issued For Lorain County

Residents are being told to stay on the lower floors of their home during the storm.

AVON, OH — A high wind warning has been issued for Lorain County.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph could blow through the county on Thursday night and Friday morning, the National Weather Service warned. The agency initially issued a high wind watch, but upgraded it to a warning on Thursday.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive," the National Weather Service said.

Sustained wind gusts of 35 mph are expected between 11 p.m. Thursday to 12 p.m. Friday. The high wind warning was issued for Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina and Ashland counties.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the National Weather Service said.

The bursts of wind will be accompanied by heavy rainfall. Up to an inch of rain could fall in 24 hours, in some areas, the National Weather Service warned. Additional rainfall could come Friday afternoon and Saturday night.
